14Statements by Israeli officials calling for Gaza's destruction, cited as evidence of genocidal intent
- A sitting minister called a nuclear bomb on Gaza “an option” — on the radio.
- “Flatten,” “erase,” “no non-combatants”: the quotes came from officials, not the fringe.
- The World Court ordered Israel to prevent and punish incitement to genocide.
On 5 November 2023, Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu said in a radio interview that dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza was "an option," prompting Prime Minister Netanyahu to suspend him from cabinet meetings amid a series of statements by Israeli ministers and public figures calling for Gaza to be flattened or erased. South Africa cited such statements as evidence of genocidal intent in its case before the International Court of Justice, which on 26 January 2024 ordered Israel to prevent and punish direct and public incitement to genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
