02Double-tap strike on Nasser Hospital kills journalists and rescuers
- The second missile was for the rescuers — fired as they pulled bodies from the first.
- Killed live on air: a Reuters camera streamed its own operator's death.
- Five journalists from Reuters, AP and Al Jazeera died; the army said it was aiming at “a Hamas camera.”
On 25 August 2025, Israeli forces struck Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis twice in quick succession, with the second strike hitting rescuers and journalists who had gathered at the scene of the first, an attack partly captured on a Reuters live camera feed. Gaza health officials said at least 20 people were killed, including five journalists working with Reuters, the Associated Press, Al Jazeera and other outlets; the Israeli military said the journalists were not the target and that a preliminary inquiry found troops had aimed at what they identified as a Hamas camera, while the UN Secretary-General and press-freedom groups called for an independent investigation.
