04Killings of Palestinians seeking food at GHF aid distribution sites
- “It's a killing field” — an Israeli soldier describing his own orders, to Haaretz.
- 994 people killed near GHF sites in eleven weeks, by UN count — shot waiting for food.
- Soldiers said commanders ordered live fire at unarmed crowds — one compared it to “red light, green light.”
From late May 2025, Palestinians seeking food at distribution sites run by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation were repeatedly fired upon; the UN human rights office reported that by mid-August 2025, 994 of the 1,760 Palestinians killed while seeking food since 27 May had died in the vicinity of GHF sites, with witnesses, Gaza health officials, and UN bodies attributing most of the killings to Israeli forces. In June 2025, Haaretz quoted Israeli soldiers who said commanders ordered them to fire on unarmed crowds near the sites — one called the area a "killing field" — allegations the Israeli military and government denied, with Netanyahu calling the report a "blood libel."
